Providing a Tool to Combat Citrus Greening

How NutriHold has helped citrus growers deal with a significant threat to the citrus industry

NutriHold continues to serve as a consistent component in an effective citrus greening treatment program

As the most devastating disease to impact the citrus industry in recent history, citrus greening is the primary concern of many experts throughout the industry. Some treatment programs centered on citrus tree nutrition have proven effective at achieving economically viable yields in greening infected groves. Among the most successful is the Maury Boyd Nutritional Program, which incorporates NutriHold (previously marketed under the name TurfPro).

The Maury Boyd program originally started as several different programs involving a variety of different nutritional and chemical products, but the one constant was NutriHold.

This article details the program and the phenomenal success they have had with the yields of their groves despite citrus greening infections.

The hypothesized explanations behind NutriHold's benefits on citrus greening infected trees:

  • The beneficial bacteria and fungi contained in NutriHold are known to form symbiotic relationships with plants in which they may promote the uptake of nutrients
  • Humic and fulvic acid help bind and transport nutrients into citrus tree roots and foliage
  • The bioavailable carbon and organic matter content of NutriHold can improve soil structure and productivity, potentially allowing it to retain nutrients more effectively

Citrus greening directly impairs trees' ability to uptake nutrients. This may explain why the potential nutrient uptake promoting qualities of NutriHold's components prove effective at allowing trees infected with greening to continue to produce strong yields. We hope that NutriHold can continue to serve as an effective and cost-effective tool for citrus growers in the ongoing effort to overcome this disease.
