Poultry Litter Treatment Trials Demonstrate how

Bio 5 LT can Increase Poultry House Profitability

Bio 5 LT consistently outperforms control treatments and alternative products, improving poultry survival, food-conversion ratio, and reducing mortality and waste

Bio 5 LT Environmentally Friendly Chicken Litter Treatment

Bio 5 LT is an organic, nontoxic liquid product that effectively treats and remediates wastes. It has been shown to efficiently treat/release solid ammonia from poultry litter through the synergistic components it contains: beneficial microorganisms, bioavailable carbon, and organic acids.

  • Bio 5 LT is a liquid product comprised of a natural humic material and microbes selected specifically for their ability to break down wastes.
  • Bio 5 LT contains no heavy metals of inorganic acids.
  • Bio 5 LT is nontoxic, non-hazardous, and all natural.
  • Bio 5 LT is easy to apply, with application taking just 10 minutes for 20,000 square feet on average. Does not require any protective gear or PPE.
  • Bio 5 LT carries the US EPA “Design for the Environment” seal.
  • Bio 5 LT is 100% organic, certified salmonella free and a product of the USA

Bio 5 LT works in the following ways

  • Rapidly releases solid ammonia from the existing litter.
  • Controls ammonia levels throughout the growth period.
  • Populates litter with beneficial bacteria which reduces stress on the birds.
  • Reduces pathogenic bacteria by competitive exclusion.

1.   Bio 5 LT vs. Normal Growing Process

This study compared the performance of Bio 5 LT with standard chicken house practices in terms of end profitability of commercially raised broiler chickens. Bio 5 LT was used to treat 64 houses with an average of 20,000 birds each. The following results describe the benefits demonstrated by the Bio 5 LT treatment:

  • Reduced mortality rate by 3.1%. This is a gain of 620 birds per house or just under 40,000 more live birds across the 64 houses.
  • Increased flock weight by 3.9%. Based on an average weight of 5 pounds per bird this would be a gain of .2 pound per bird. This would mean a gain of 3,800 pounds per house, accounting for a 5% mortality rate.
  • Reduced condemnation by 38.6%. This means a gain of over 500 pounds of saleable bird per house or 32,000 additional pounds from the 64 houses tested.
  • Improved feed conversion of 6.2%. This means approximately 5 tons less feed per house or a total of 320 tons feed for the 64 houses. A major savings in feed plus handling.

2.   Bio 5 LT vs. two other products and a control group

This study compared the results of various products on the end profitability of commercially raised broiler chickens. Bottom line cost is very important in a business that has very little room for loss in profitability. Our Bio 5 LT product not only can increase your bottom line but does in a way that protects the environment and lowers possibility of future cleanup costs or pathogen outbreaks.

Study Design: The study compares the effectiveness of Bio 5 LT against two other litter treatment materials and an untreated control group.

The study was performed using 12 total poultry houses at a commercial poultry facility:

  • Three (3) houses were treated with Sodium Bisulfate (PLT).
  • Three (3) houses were treated with an Enzyme product (ESS).
  • Two (2) houses were left untreated as the control group.
  • Four (4) houses were treated with Bio 5 LT.

15,000 High Y & Ross cross chicks were placed in each chicken house. The houses were maintained with nearly identical environmental conditions. Feed and vaccinations were consistent between all of the houses. The results and data analysis are displayed below.

Mortality Rate – Percentage of Survival

This portion of the study looks at losses of broilers during the growing stage:

  • Bio 5 LT treatment resulted in just over 4 percent loss or 617 broilers per house.
  • Sodium Bisulfate obtained 5 ½ percent loss or 828 broilers per house.
  • Enzyme Product obtained 7 percent loss or 1052 broilers per house.
  • The control group resulted in 9 percent loss or 1348 broilers per house.

At these rates the Bio 5 LT would have produced an additional 2,532 broilers for market than the Sodium Bisulfate in this growing cycle if used on the total of twelve (12) houses used in the study. This equates t an additional 5,220 broilers compared to the Enzyme product and an additional 8,778 broilers compared to the untreated control group.

Feed Conversion Ratio

This portion of the study looks at the Food Use to Weight Gain ratio (Feed Conversion Ratio). Feed costs money and the more of it that transfers to broiler weight, the less it costs you as the grower to produce marketable poultry.

  • Bio 5 LT obtained just under a 2 to 1 ratio.
  • Sodium Bisulfate obtained just under a 2.2 to 1 ratio.
  • Enzyme Product obtained approximately a 2.2 to 1 ratio.
  • The control group obtained about a 2.8 to 1 ratio.

These results suggest that Bio 5 LT can reduce your food needs by almost 12 percent over Sodium Bisulfate in a growing cycle. Bio 5 LT will give a reduction of about 11.5 percent over the Enzyme product and whopping 43.5 percent over the untreated control group.

Condemned Pounds of Harvested Product

These calculations estimate the total condemned pounds of harvested product considered unfit for human consumption:

  • Bio 5 LT obtained less than ½ percent total loss.
  • Sodium Bisulfate resulted in over ¾ percent total loss.
  • Enzyme Product obtained over 1 ½ percent total loss.
  • The control group obtained nearly 2 percent total loss.

Condemned harvest pounds cost you money not only in lost recoverable pounds but in lost loss house space, feed, and all other services associated with raising the broilers.

Air Sac loss Percentages

Air Sac condemnations in the poultry industries from condemned and downgraded carcasses at slaughter is a major cost to the growers. Mycoplasmosis is the most costly disease of domestic birds worldwide.

  • Bio 5 LT results were less than ½ percent total loss.
  • Sodium Bisulfate results were over ¾ percent total loss.
  • Enzyme Product results were over 1 ½ percent total loss.
  • The control group results were just under 2 percent total loss.

Condemned harvest pounds cost you money not only in lost recoverable pounds but in lost loss house space, feed and all other services associated with raising the broilers.

3.   Bio 5 LT vs. Poultry Guard & a Seven Farm Control Group

This test was done using four houses each for Bio 5 LT and Poultry Guard plus additional information from seven other farms using their standard program.

Mortality Rate

  • Mortality rate in Bio 5 LT houses was 1.359%.
  • Mortality rate in Poultry Guard houses was 1.374%.
  • Mortality rate in seven farm average was 5.16%.
  • Bio 5 LT showed a 1 % gain over Poultry Guard and a 73% gain over what was used in the seven farm average.

Condemnation Rate

  • Condemnation rate in Bio 5 LT houses was 0.35%.
  • Condemnation rate in Poultry Guard houses was 0.45%.
  • Condemnation rate in seven farm average was 0.44%.
  • Bio 5 LT showed a 22 % gain over Poultry Guard and a 20% gain over what was used in the seven farm average

Food Conversion Ratio (Pounds of food per pound of broiler weight)

  • Bio 5 LT required 1.717 pounds of food per pound of broiler weight.
  • Poultry Guard required 1.723 pounds of food per pound of broiler weight.
  • The seven farm average required 1.84 pounds of food per pound of boiler weight
  • Bio 5 LT reduced the amount of food by 0.35% over Poultry Guard and by 6.68% compared to the seven farm average. On a 20,000 bird house this equates to a gain of 540 pound of weight more than Poultry Guard and 10,306 vs. the seven farm average.

Reduction of Ammonia

Bio 5 LT reduced ammonia levels by 15% more than the Poultry Guard in the tested houses.

Reduction of Cake

There was 33% less cake removed from the Bio 5 LT houses than from the Poultry Guard Houses.
