Magnolia Organics increases yield with Agri-Pro!
Magnolia Organics, Organic Certified vegetable operation in the Tampa Bay area, implemented a regiment of Agri-Pro to the 2010 fall crop. On 1/17/2011 we received a report from Rodger Bilbrey of his impressions and yield increase numbers of this Fall’s crop of production.
Rodger’s observation of the crop were:
- Increased health and vigor of the plants.
- Less powdery mildew.
- When he pulled the plastic off the rows, when the crop was finished, he discovered the soil was covered with a white layer of mycorrhizal fungi that growing on the soil.
- What he considered to be more important than the increased yield numbers that he achieved using Agri Pro, was the increased take of his initial planting. Last year his take rate was 85% and this year his take rate was 99-100% on his initial plantings. He told the Organic Products Company that not having to go back and do resets of plants that didn’t take saved him a significant amount of time and money.
Organic Vegetable Yield Increases:
Yellow Squash : Non-treated rows yielded 61.5 boxes and the treated row yielded 67 boxes and was picked two weeks before the non-treated rows, which got him into the market early and he got $32 a box being early.
Zucchini : Had a 5 box increase per row and was in two weeks early.
Broccoli : Last years crop melted at 19 degrees, this years treated crop suffered virtually no damage at 18 degrees. Turf Pro helped the crop with the cold stress.
Cucumbers : Had a 15% increase in yield and was in 3 weeks early.
Eggplant : Increased the size of the fruit, last years averaged ¾ to 1 lb. in size, this year they were 1 ½ to 1 ¾ lb. in size.
Okra : Picked 4 boxes a day until the freeze, which was an increase from last year.
Onions : Increased the size of the onions this year.
Peppers : 30% increase in yield and size of peppers.
Watermelon : Faster bloom time and increased size of foliage with less fungal problems.
Tomatoes : Less powdery mildew problems.
Initial planting dilution rate was 1 gallon per 50 gallons of water and 6 ounces of this solution was applied as a soil drench at time of planting.
He then did a foliar spray every two weeks with 1 gallon of Agri-Pro per 100 gallons of water.
